Elsie Mayo

A Norfolk native, Elsie spent her young childhood in Ghent with her two sisters and four brothers. The family later lived in several NRHA communities, including, the former Bowling Park, Tidewater Gardens and Diggs Town.

A graduate of Norview High School, Elsie worked in the retail industry for more than 20 years before retiring in 2014.

Elsie is a member of Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church where she serves as a member of the Bereavement Ministry. As a cancer survivor, she offers a compassionate heart and a giving personality to those living through challenging circumstances. As part of that work, she is a financial sponsor of St. Jude’s Hospital.

Elsie has two adult children and five grandchildren.
